Scudda Hoo copyTravel back with us to 1948.  The streets of downtown Sedalia are lined with thousands of people wanting to catch a glimpse of Hollywood stars, Lon McCallister and Colleen Townsend as they visit Sedalia for the movie’s world premiere.  This post WWII light-hearted romance centers on a young farmhand and his learning to train a newly acquired pair of Missouri mules.

Sedalia was selected for the honors because of our great heritage of breeding champion Missouri mules.  Our celebration will not only commemorate the Hollywood buzz, but give tribute to this remarkable animal.

A parade will kick off the festivities on Saturday, September 14, at 10 am.  Look for a vast display of mule teams from across the state, along with horses, floats, military contingents, marching bands, vintage 1940′s cars and many Hollywood look-alikes.

Take a tour of the historic Monsees mule barn and breeding facilities, now owned by John & Cathy Hammons.  View the entries for the  youth barn photo contest.  Admire our beautiful blue jeans model contest & vote for your favorite and don’t miss the Blue Jeans Ball.  Take the little ones to the Kid’s Barnyard activity area or on a wagon ride.

See what all the hubbub is about.  Be sure and join us in the screening of the original Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! full length movie in an downtown setting.

All proceeds for the events will be used towards the renovation of the 1935 historic Uptown Theatre, 225 South Ohio and your donations are tax-deductible as charitable contributions.
